Athlete Profile: Darcie Cipollini
How long have you been crossfitting? Almost one year...10 months in May!
What brought you to CrossFit York initially? My husband, Joe [Editor's note: That's Joe Money! or Joe $], and I wanted to find a fitness routine that met our own personal goals and allowed us to enjoy exercising together. Crossfit was a perfect match for both of us! I really love that every day presents a new and different routine. I enjoyed lifting weights prior to finding Crossfit, but it felt difficult to do so as a woman in other gyms...Crossfit does not discriminate :)
Which session do you normally attend? 4pm...a very sassy bunch! I wouldn't get through some of the workouts without the 4pm "regulars."
What accomplishments are you most proud of since you began training at CrossFit York?
The overall toning that my body has gone through since beginning Crossfit. Regarding specific movements, the day that I was able to do Toes-to-Bar was a real "moment" for me!
Describe your nutritional philosophy. What's your favorite food? My diet is 80/20. I try to eat organic, whole foods on a regular basis but am not afraid to indulge in my favorite dessert or glass of wine. I've always tried to restrict saturated fat and cholesterol as much as possible. Because of my genetically high cholesterol, I don't eat red meat or fried foods. My one true love is berries, berries, berries.
You participated in the CrossFit open this year. What motivated you to compete? Mostly curiosity. I didn't know much about the Games and the open presented an opportunity for me to take part in this worldwide event. Although the open brought out my uber-competitive side, it was a learning experience and made me humbled in the end. I truly surprised myself during 13.1.
What are your short- and long-term fitness goals? Short term: To once and for all, do a strict pull-up. Still battling...
Long term: To continue leading a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle.
