Do you see what I see?

The 2010 CrossFit Games, a competition of elite CrossFit athletes starts today and I’m wondering, who at CrossFit York would do well at the games.

Everyone has the potential to train hard, qualify and do well at the Games. CrossFit, the sport of fitness, is like any sport- a combination of learned movements executed in a competitive environment.

Hockey players are not born with the ability to move on ice while using a stick to smack a puck into a goal while avoiding being clobbered by other players. These are learned skills. CrossFit is a combination of compound functional movements. Yes, they are complicated, and yes, they take a long time to learn. But you can and will eventually do them well.

When I meet you, I see the athlete that you can be - not the person who let themselves slide a little, or the person that got picked last every time in gym class. I see the person who has broken down barriers built over years. I see the person who has exceeded their expectations and is in uncharted territory. I see the person who has confidence, knowing they will overcome challenges that arise. I see the person who picks people to be on his/her team. I see you standing on a podium.

So forgive me if I occasionally give you the look of, “Shut up and just do it”
